Why does some art evoke such strong emotions when I stand in front of it and other work does not. Some stops me in my tracks. I have seen a little of Kandinsky in various galleries. I have seen and read enough to know I had to go to the Kandinsky exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW. From the moment I walked in I was glad I came. The creations on the walls put me in a happy space. I generally take pictures of every work and its text tag when I am in a gallery. I did that in this show except for one. I stopped awestruck with the abstract beauty of one particular work. I may have been there for ten minutes when a tour came through and the guide talked about the work and its background. Before she moved her group on she mentioned to them that when a friend of Solomon Guggenheim talked him into buying into Kandinsky, the work I was looking at was the one that got him started. I was so struck by the work it was the only work I failed to take a picture of. The intersection of historical trends, world history, several nations and a personal quest worked itself out in Kandinsky's life. He was in the ferment of the first half of the 20th century and that vibrant turmoil gave energy to his creation. I will track more on the artist and his life.
