Work above: Mine Disaster Monument 2007 - Cang Xin
Art collectors are important. They fund artists. They often promote artists. Sometimes they donate and exhibit their collections. Geoff Raby is one such collector. I had heard of his donation of a collection to La Trobe University but was excited when I found it was on show at the National Art School in Darlinghurst. This part of the collection included around three dozen artists with works on delightful aspects of Chinese life. Two floors of fabulous works purchased over more than 30 years successfully blew up many stereotypes of mine about Chinese art. If I can I will go back for another hour.
Exhibition Dates: Friday 19 January – Saturday 30 March 2024
