Girls and dolls in the Norwood trading area ai busily engaged this week in preparing for the big Doll Beauty Contest, opening at H. A. Hills Sons, 136 Nahatan street, next to the Star Market, next Monday August 6.
Hundreds of entry blanks have been distributed by the store to hopeful young girls who plan to enter their dolls in the novel competition, and the five big prizes have been announced.
First prize will be a Chatty Cathy Doll and a new 9 Way Stroll-a-buggy, which converts into 9 different pieces of doll of baby equipment. Second prize will be a Remco Empress Phone & Desk Set. Remco's new Showboat will be the third prize, complete with stage and all the actors for giving several shows. Fourth prize will be a glamorous 1114" Fashion Model Doll with "day of the week" dress ups. The fifth prize will be a Shaggy Dog lamp. There will also be a gift for every girl who enters the contest.
Separate miniature beauty contests are being heid this year at the same time in Hills stores in Wellesley, Norwood, and Randolph Past contests in the Wellesley and Randolph stores have created much excitement and brought as many as 700 dolls entered in all the Hills stores.
Dolls will be entered at the store all next week, from Monday, Aug. 6, through Saturday, August 11. During the following week, August 13 through 18. all the doll contestants will be displayed in the store and customers will vote by ballot for their favorites. Winners will be announced on the following Tuesday, Aug 21.
Entry blanks are available at the Hills store now Th, competition is open to girls under 15 years of age living in the normal trading area of the store. Only one doll may be entered by each girl.
There has been a bustle of activity and excitement at the store already with questions about the contest and many miniature mammas buying a new bonnet or new shoos or even a whole new wardrobe for their favorites for the big event. Some have even bought curlers and waving lotion to curl milady's hair.
Every kind and size and shape doll has a chance to win, for past winners in the Hills' contests have ranged from tiny handmade rag dolls to life-size beauties, from wood to China, and from homemade clothes to dolls from nearly every country of the world.
