The Third Elimination Meet in the race for the Bonney Morcom Trophy of the Old Colony Council, Boy Scouts of America, has just been completed at the Harrison Child Camping Reservation in Manomet. Mass.
The event was capably supervised by Waterfront Director Bob Gibs of Stoughton and Waterfront Assistants Dan Sullivan of Stoughton and Pete Dingman of South Braintree. For the first time this summer, there were no first-place disqualifications in the Head Carry event and the meet, watched by over 200 campers and 100 visitors, was a successful Scout camping event. For the first time this summer, an "Explorers Only" meet was held at the same time. In Scouting, Explorers arc boys 14 years of age or over, who may belong to Scout Troops, Explorer Posts, Ships, or Squadrons.
In Boy Scout Elimination Meet Three, the Short Breast Stroke contest was won by Peter Graves of Troop 37 Foxboro; the Long Breast Stroke was won by George Chapman of Troop 49 Norwood, the Backstroke was won by Phi! Cleaves of Troop 2 Weymouth, the Long Free Slype was won by Mike Gillen of Troop 50 South Weymouth; the Short Free Style was won by Fred Lawrence of Troop 50 South Weymouth, the Undressing on Land was won by David Botti, Troop 49; the Head Carry was won by Carl Reid of Troop 8 South Weymouth; the Undressing in the Water was won by Robley Ray of Troop 8 South Weymouth; the Ring Buoy Toss was won by Paul Driscoll of Troop 40 Braintree; the Obstacle Race was won by a Scout from Troop 2 Weymouth; Hie Relay Race was won by Troop 2 of Weymouth; and the Stroke for Distance was won by George Forsyth of Troop 40 Braintree.
The winner of the meet was Troop 2 of Weymouth of which Franklin Pratt is Scoutmaster. The winner of the First Explorer Elimination Race was Troop 40 of Braintree. The winners of the Explorer .events are as follows:
The Short Breast Stroke was won by John Bowler of Troop 49 Norwood; the Long Breast Stroke was won by Don Holmes of Troop 42 Norwood; the. Back Stroke was won by John Noonan of Troop 49 Norwood; the Undressing on Land was won by Jim Whalen of Troop 40 Braintree; the Head Carry was won by Jim Whalen, also; the Ring Buoy Toss was won by Timothy Sullivan of Troop 40 Braintree; the Obstacle Race was won by John Bowler of Troop 49 Norwood; the Stroke for Distance was won by Mason Fleming of Troop 8 South Weymouth.
There is to be one more elimination meet before the summer season at camp is over and that is scheduled for Saturday, August 18th, 1956. Any troop in the Old Colony Council which has not already participated in an elimination meet is eligible to visit camp on that day and participate. Scoutmasters have been notified of the procedure for spending the weekend m camp for those troops who enter the last elimination meet or troops who have won places in earlier elimination meets. The Finals will be run on Sunday, August 19th, at 2 00 p.m. and it Is hoped that a fine troop delegation and large visitor assemblage will be on hand to cheer on the winners.
