Norwood To Join In National Celebration

In observance of Joseph Lee Day, set aside in memory of Joseph Lee, founder of the playground movement in America, the playground children of Norwood will gather at the Senior High School grounds next Thursday night and will present a pageant entitled, "Pursuit of Joy" as their observance of the day which will be national in scope. The pageant is scheduled to begin at 6:45 and all of the parents and other interested citizens are cordially invited to witness the production which will be staged under the direction of the playground supervisors.

National Joseph Lee Day is being sponsored by the National Recreation Council and has the endorsement of President Roosevelt. Mr. Lee died on July 28, 1937 and the exercises will commemorate his death and will pay homage to his contribution to the National recreation movement. Some 400 to 500 children will take part in the Norwood pageant which will consist of songs, dances, and games, and with a break from the weather man a large audience is expected to be in attendance. The observance will also serve as a reminder of the inception of Norwood playgrounds which was, in large measure due to the efforts of the Women's Community Committee.
