In my quest for landscape perfection ( impossible to achieve ) I have recently done some colour drawings. Colour is not my strongest card in the set, but the act of drawing in colour is as contemplative as my favourite drawing method which is line drawing.
I've done a few of late. That phrase used often on Mastermind: "I've started so I'll finish " does not feature here. I never seem to finish anything, or perhaps that is as it should be. A drawing is never finished. Sometimes it takes someone else's opinion to realise that perhaps it is finished. Whipping away a toddlers drawing will sometimes be worth the screaming as they have produced a mini masterpiece in one or two strokes. They just don't know it.
So I planned to draw the orange house. In colour ( seemed right given the colour of the place ) and laid down pastels onto a blue paper. That's getting a head start on the other dominant colour here: bright blue Californian sky. It came together ok and the plan was to work it up a bit. My other half was asked for an opinion, she who is good at colour. She said " leave it like that, it's finished! " . I posted it on instagram and two artists who I respect and admire and were not even asked both said " Leave it! "
In a quiet moment I asked other half " Do I have a tendency to work these things to death? " She said "Yes" and carried on sorting out a pair of socks ( not mine, I do my own but never really finish ).
So here it is. The finished Orange House L A. I might have another go on another version to see what I might have done.
On the extra plus side, material costs go down and production of landscapes in colour goes up.

Looks nowhere near finished to me, but what do I know?
