One of the Djiraali Muriyira images photographed by the author in the gallery
This image is the third of six large paintings in a progressive series in an L shaped exhibition space at Tuggeranong Arts Centre. Arriving in the Gallery the powerful beauty of the six and their clear progression draws you in to ask questions. The artist's statement does not disappoint. Without giving too much away the title means whale blood and the triangles represent the artists people. My brain has gone back to these images often for their vivid story telling and have provide me with a visual framework for stories I encounter of other peoples and their stories. My father in law worked on a whaling station but he was not local and moved on. This exhibition tells a much more powerful story. The exhibition is on until Saturday August 12.
