IN NEW QUARTERS — The Norwood Fire Department moved into their new quarters on Nahatan Street last Wednesday. Some of the men and apparatus are lined up in front of the new station, top photo. In the lower photo, a flag-raising ceremony was a part of the opening day with Town Manager Walter Blasenak and the Fire Department Chaplain, the Rev. Leon Hatch, officiating. , (Eugene McLean Photo)

Barring an unforeseen delay, the Norwood Police Department will move into the new station tomorrow morning.

The task of hooking up the intricate wiring system for the call boxes and teletype and the radio installation are about completed and final testing of the systems will clear the way for occupancy of the building tomorrow morning.

In order to expedite the transfer, a professional mover is being hired to cart the filing cabinets and other articles to the new station in one complete operation so that the records will be intact on their arrival.

Town Manager Walter A. Blasenak, titular head of the police department under the Town Charter, will give the go-ahead signal for the move if everything is in order on Thursday morning.

Members of the department have been busy for the past two days cleaning out their old lockers and getting ready for the transfer.

END OF AN ERA — Town Manager Walter A Blasenak and Fire Chief Irving J. Dobson met last Wednesday afternoon at the old Fire Station on Central Street where the Town Manager sounded the tapper for the last time. The impromptu decommissioning ceremony marked the departure of the firemen for the new Nahatan Street quarters.

On their arrival at the new police headquarters, they will find new lockers all installed. The chief, lieutenant, and sergeants will have their own offices, and the police matron will also have a room of her own.

The firemen, first to move into the new combination police-fire-civil defense headquarters, have been in their new home for a week. Formal dedication ceremonies are scheduled for Sunday, May 3.
