GUILD 22 is an exhibition of recent works by members of the Canberra Craft Bookbinders' Guild.
It features16 exhibitors and 36 bindings/constructions of fine, contemporary, sculptural and artist creations and is currently on view at Canberra Civic Library from Saturday 10 September – Saturday 1 October, 2022.
My entry above, titled Overflow is a waterfall book featuring a poem I wrote about the incessant rain that drenched New South Wales this year. The book consists of stitched layers of handmade and recycled papers decorated with handmade inks, stamps and eco dyes.
Guild 22 is co-ordinated by dedicated Guild members, Sharon Peoples, Sonja Skagen and Vicki Woolley. In the catalogue, they describe the members' work as 'quirky, elegant and innovative'.
The Canberra Craft Binders Guild is a lively and dynamic and well-organised group of bookbinders and book artists which meets monthly to share a wide range of informative, creative and fun activities. Members also share information including newsletters from other guilds, international book arts links, talks and 'how to' tutorials.
I love being a member of the CCBG and have learned so much from the members' generosity, experience and wisdom. The feeling of belonging it gives me has made all the difference to my enthusiasm and my book art work. And you don't have to live in Canberra to belong!
The Guild objectives are:
To promote and exhibit the art of the hand-bound book. To maintain the traditional craft bookbinding skills. To seek to exert a progressive influence on the design and technique of bookbinding.
The catalogue reads: 'Guild 22 highlights amongst our members, the diversity of interests, the creativity and willingness to experiment with styles and materials.'
