Life by the River

The sun has come out after a week of wild, windy and very wet weather. The river rose and almost flooded the road. It did take over the park . There is a car up the road that is now lying crumpled under a large fallen gum tree. Thousands of people around the state lost their power for several days. My beautiful budlia tree was ripped out and I've just spent the afternoon cutting it up with the help of my son and a trusty handsaw. I also discovered a disconcerting wet patch on the carpet in one of the spare rooms which was spreading until I pulled up the carpet and the rain stopped...I'm guessing there's a loose section on the roof that will need to be found and fixed. There was also a leak from one of the windows that I didn't notice until the off white curtain was well and truely water stained!

I was fully expecting my plum trees to have lost their blossoms but surprisingly they seem to have withstood the elements.

There's always a silver lining in the darkest cloud and we've had some pretty dark clouds this last week.

Back to acrylic gouache for today's postcard.
