I have been thinking about The One Ring Roleplaying Game. But I have a problem. I feel the common issue with licensed RPGs is that number of different stories that you can tell becomes limited, but that this is especially true for One Ring.
Consider Star Wars. If you're playing the Star Wars RPG, there are multiple stories you can tell. Wars stories (defending Hof from the empire), espionage (stealing the Death Star plans), mystical awakening (learning to become a Jedi) or criminal heists (stealing coaxium from the mines of Kessel). Each one can explore different themes, and the environment may have different 'vibes'
But with the One Ring, the type of story seems very limited. Leaving your home, venturing into a dark place, considering how much the world has fallen since the first age, encounter some servant of the dark one, and try to escape with your life, go home again.
D&D is effectively a big toy box, allowing lots of different types of stories, with different themes, and different 'vibes'. But the themes and vibes for One Ring are limited to those that Tolkien explored in his books.
