tapestry weaving is always slow - but weaving with paper thread (shifu) has its challenges
the paper yarn is stiff without much stretch
and unlike wool it doesn't have little fibers reaching out to cling to adjacent yarns
so it is difficult to pack down nicely
with a little patience it looks like this
it measures 4.5 inches x 6.5 inches and I'm now considering how/when to finish
other than the straight weave along the bottom I did switch from wedge weave to a short area of straight, horizontal weaving in the middle
(can you see it?)
it worked technically but looks a bit odd
it feels/looks like a walk along the beach
my student finished her first warp - she has a nice collection of samples (sorry, no pictures)
but this table runner, woven in Log Cabin pattern and backed with an old piece of her mother's silk obi (Japanese kimono tie/belt) is stunning
using the fabric as a border on the front finished the uneven selvedges
the change in colour and pattern in the fabric matches the weaving perfectly
Summer is having a final heat wave and the flower baskets are coming to an end
isn't nature amazing, the pattern and colour is delightful
enjoy!
