This project is by far the oldest I've returned to - if you want to see it's origins, check out the last months of 2012 and early 2013 in the sidebar of the blog. I'm not really sure why it stalled, but when I found it in a drawer recently, it was with that pleasurable start you get when you find something you'd completely forgotten and discover that after all these years it still has merit.
I've called it a number of things - Rusted Art Quilt, Fragments Quilt, but before I decide on a name, this is what I have: a collection of mismatched fragments of fabric with varying degrees of rust marking, some deliberate, some random, backed onto calico and embellished with stitching to create blocks. There are also a couple of pieces, the dark red with turquoise doughnut beads and a small patchwork block which isn't in the photo which are based on commercial fabrics. As taken out of the box they look like this.
Also in the box were a few other scraps of fabric, beads, copper goldwork threads, and fancy threads.
At the moment I think the first thing to do is to decide on the size and shape the quilt is actually going to be so I know how many more, if any, blocks I need to create and potentially start rust dyeing a larger piece for the background. I'm quite excited to return to something I was working on over a decade ago, especially as I'd put it on hold to finish the Springboard book and there are lots of ideas bubbling up for moving it on.
