In fact, where we got married—in the back garden of our Atlanta home—being queer, doing queer, was actively illegal.1 Exactly 20 years later, we got married again, this time with the full might of the State of Washington and the United States of America behind us.2 Those double rings carry the weight and joy of 42 years of love.
