an anniversary and September photo challenge

By onesmallstitch on September 26, 2024

today, "One Small Stitch" has been gathering comments - and dust - for 14 years

I don't know what I expected when I started

but

blogging has encouraged me to keep making so there is something to write about

I've taken hundreds more pictures than is/was necessary

the Happy Gang were created during Covid, they gave me something to think/write about and kept me company

someone new has joined occasionally - is it time for a new member?

when I read back looking for dyeing instructions or a weaving pattern, I find work I don't remember doing and people who left comments who have moved on to other places

and best of all I've met some very nice people - your comments are what keep me going - thank you

and today is time for the September photo challenge - the subjects this month are seeds and leaves

with a long, dry Summer it is a bit early in the season so most of the pictures were taken in previous years

the leaves are only starting to turn

this is my front path when the Japanese maple drops all its leaves suddenly, in one or two days

and maple leaves from my neighbor's tree

ginkgo trees grow very slowly, I have a tiny tree, grow from a seed brought from Japan many years ago, and it's still only 18 inches tall

it doesn't help that the deer munch on it, even with protective fencing!

amazing colours in one leaf

so much potential in a handful of seeds

flax - which of course every serious weaver, spinner and dyer knows well

teasels - I brought the seeds from England about 50 years ago

teasel seed heads were once mounted in a wooden frame and used to brush woolen fabric to raise the nap and give a soft finish

sunflower heads drying in the sun

the seed pods from a rather nondescript pale yellow iris are spectacular

and so begins another year
