Last week, except for Tuesday when I went out with a friend, I stayed in. Friday I was waiting for a delivery, anyway. It never arrived. The week was hot, I had groceries, books, and music. There was no need to go out into that heat.
You know it's too hot when you open the front door and your lungs become seared by the heat vapors rising from the asphalt parking lot. Of your skin burns as touch the car door handle, steering wheel, and dashboard. Nope. Stay in.
Yesterday was another great day at church. Today I thought I'd make a jaunt. I saw on Facebook from my favorite local farmer that he'd stocked his farm stand with fresh tomatoes. No chemicals, locally grown, and ripe. You had me at tomatoes. If there was anything to dislodge me from my comfy, air conditioned apartment, it'd be tomatoes. Do you get the idea I LOVE fresh tomatoes?
The drive there isn't long and it's pretty. Here are some photos. Ride along with me on an overcast, very humid day to get some local produce from our hardworking farmers.
It's haying season
A sparkling white fence and a largemouth bass
Large cross in a lone field
I take a right at the top of the hill where the huge tree dominates the landscape
I couldn't stop with this one, there was a car behind me. Hence the blur. This property always has a religious sign out front. Today it's part of John 3:18, 'he that believeth not is condemned already'.
sunflowers greeted me, the only sun shining this morning
tray upon tray of tomatoes!
we have gone a month or two without rain. We had a little bit last night finally.
corn for many farmers around here burned up on the stalk, it's been so hot and dry. Hopefully this cornfield will survive.
really big flag put up for the 4th.
horses' tails swishing sluggishly against equally sluggish flies
the remainder of my coffee and the goal, the prize, the grail, the pot of red gold at the end of the rainbow: TOMATOES
Thanks Berrymans!
