A charmimg couple of Masked Lapwings have moved into our yard and are checking out the real estate for a nesting site. They've been strutting to and fro for a few weeks now . I don't think they've realised we have a resident cat because she tends to stay well away from the road and the lapwings have staked out an area near where we park the cars.
Masked Lapwings, or Spur Winged Plovers, or simply Plovers as they're more commonly called, are smart looking birds with a strong sense of territory so once these two have set up home on our lawn and raised some chicks we'll need to be wary around them. I'm sincerely hoping they don't nest close to the car or we'll have to move it!
For now they give me a lot of pleaseure because I can look out the studio window and see them strutting around, finding insects and chattering to each other.
So here's today's postcard, a homage to the common Masked Lapwing. I kept the brushstrokes pretty chunky and angular because I think it helps to convey their strutting sort of gait.
