Over the last year, these videos have taken you on a journey through the demystification of archives and archival research. You have taken a behind the scenes look at Hornbake, our collections, and what we do. You have also learned about bias, evaluative skills and how to search our various collections and media formats. The time has come to visit the "ivory tower" that is the University of Maryland Special Collections and University Archives!
If you have learned anything, we hope that you have learned that the archives are not at all an ivory tower, but treasures and adventures still await! This blog will guide you through:
Creating your own Special Collections account (those not affiliated with the University can create an account too!);
Making an appointment to visit the Maryland Room in Hornbake Library, and;
How to request archival materials to explore during your visit.
If you should have any questions about these videos or if you encounter any problems when doing any of these tasks, please do not hesitate to contact us anytime at askhornbake@umd.edu.
