Poem: Moon Conjunct Saturn

By Andrew on 26 June 2024

The Moon conjuncts Saturn in Pisces tomorrow, 27 June 2024 at 10:56 am EDT in the seventh house (for US east-coasters). Dry and cold Saturn meets the Moon's wetness, and the result is a frosty unpleasant sense of isolation and alienation, stranded on the water's edge — unable to cross over, and unable to return to warmer, fairer places inland...out of the stinging sand, and the wind.

Moon Conjunct Saturn in Pisces

Hail, Lady Moon, at Ocean's ragged edge
wrapping her mantle around the Old Man,
who sits where the tide laps at rocky ledge.
The sea uses every technique it can
to pilfer the land to fill up her deeps,
crabbing away at the slipping sands,
roaring, clawing like the storm surge's breaks;
sweeping up tidally while Ceres sleeps,
skipping stones to sea in childish hands...
and every day, she takes and takes, and takes.

Along the shore, the salt-marsh grasses grow,
a sea of reeds much thinner than a straw;
and in amongst them, tall Fragmites flow,
settling ground by Evolution's law —
choking the marsh and promising its doom.
Oyster, and red-winged blackbird, and mussel
might find no supper in such tidal waste —
like there's no light on in this empty room,
holy like church, but chilly like cloister,
solitary as prison (yet more chaste).

Holy Moon, hear our plea, and light your lamp:
give some comfort to Saturn in his woes!
Though dry within, he's chilly from the damp,
and there an ague dripping from his nose!
The melancholy gets deep in his bones,
but your mothering, and hot soup, will cheer
even this old canker to some smile.
Raise him from the salt-spray and the jagged stones;
Let him tell stories; let him bend your ear,
and ease his bitter loneliness a while.

The chart of the moment, shown at left, shows Saturn and the Moon in the last degree of the middle decan of Pisces, The Net, in the Seventh House. Just barely above the horizon, they warn of foreign tribulations on the internet and difficulties in faraway places; and trouble for spouses and significant others in connecting and communicating by text or email or similar methods. A loose sextile to Mars in the ninth suggests travel challenges — delays at airports and train stations, or long-delayed classes hanging over and lingering long after official start times. Be alert to dead batteries, a need for jumper cables, and similar technological snafus. However, the Moon is at or near the Lunar Perigee here, and it's likely that difficulties will be cleared quickly.

Be alert to the Moon's monthly conjunction with Neptune, though, in the early morning hours of 28 June 2024 at 4:44 am EDT. In the tenth house, this may signify the call at dawn, "the server room is down — the website is down — the thing isn't working as it should. Can you come in early?" The Moon crosses into Aries within ten minutes, so it may be worth assessing the situation and suggesting the old standby, have you tried turning it off and then on again after thirty seconds? Before doing that, find out whether or not there's water damage — if there is, power down systems and wait to assess in person at a more reasonable hour.
