My friend opened a natural dye studio and I love it so much! I've visited on three occasions now to hang out, draw inspiration, and help test out her future workshops! On my first visit I came to say hello! Rebecca gave me the grand tour and shared her ideas for decorating the space.
My second visit was actually part of my birthday celebrations! Rebecca was so generous and hosted me and a couple of friends for a private dye session. I brought snacks and Rebecca planned a lovely session around our interests.
We learned the honeycomb technique and tested it out with an indigo bath. Such a cool technique of wrapping and scrunching (oh my gosh, now I know why it's called a scrunchie). My kid collaborated on his first dyed piece, too - a tie dyed indigo creation!
My goal project for the evening was to bring new life to my kid's old clothes. Rebecca set me up with an oak gall dip; look at these cafe-y hues. (For reference, the onesies started off white; the two piece lounge set started with a taupe-grey hue.) I'm excited to gift these to new bebes!
On my third visit, it was Rebecca's birthday celebration and she hosted an open house to celebrate and test three workshop ideas! Party goers earlier in the day did some indigo dyeing to create wall hangings and made a rainbow of crayons with cocoa butter. It smelled so good in the studio when I arrived.
I got to test out a third workshop idea: a dyed headband workshop and pattern. I went for a cutch dip + salt to get this gorgeous brown hue.
I love this no sew headband option and the thick band works well with my big head of hair. The headband Rebecca chose is lightweight and comfy to wear.
Tahdah! It's so cute. And word on the street is her workshop participants will get to make a trio of headbands to test out different dye techniques and also get the assembly technique down. You can start a collection or gift one-of-a-kind creations.
Thank you Rebecca for sharing your dye science knowledge, your kindness, and your warm welcoming space! It is so nice to create in a supportive, no pressure environment. Happy workshop planning and launching! And peeps, get on the list to get creative and science nerdy with Rebecca! She's such an expert and forever learning new ways to get rich hues and quality results so you can create beautiful things!
