My summer Saturday: vintage haul and tea time

I had my coffee this morning like every day, but slowly. Ahhh, the sweet deliciousness of time. I'd planned to meet a friend at the local coffee shop at 10am, so I got over to the coffee place. She arrived and we both were coffee'd out. We tried instead a hot green tea with a shot of lavender in it. YUM. This was super smooth and tasty. Definitely have one of those again.

waiting for my friend to arrive

We yakked for quite a long time on many different biblical topics. She had finished a biography of a famous Christian and wanted to read some of it to me, so here is a picture of that:

Afterward, I trundled up the road to my favorite antique/vintage/thrift store. I was seeking a certain gift for a friend, plus I needed some gift bags. I found the perfect gift I wanted, plus some goodies. In the $5 fill-a-bag room, I found this print of a painting. It is by a German man who emigrated to Sweden in the mid 1850s-. August Josef Robert Roesler. Roesler opened a photography studio with his brother and became quite successful. This print actually is of a waterfront in Stockholm, featuring the brewery in the middle, with a house on a hill behind. The note on the back of the print says, if Google translate can be trusted, that he probably went out into the river, snapped the photo, then painted the scene as a gift for his bride, Maria. Her father owned the brewery. It was likely her house behind and up the hill a ways.

I also found this diary from 1931. it seems to have been kept by a young girl from the area. Strange to think 1931 was 93 years ago! I loved the handmade dance card tucked in the back. It was completely full, so, apparently she had her choice of beaus. She kept it up all year, starting is Jan 11 and ending on Dec 31, 1931.

From what I've read so far, her life as a young teen is pretty much the same as today's girls. She did a lot og skating, hanging around with her friends going to one another's houses, got into clashes with some girls and vowed revenge, adults got mad at them for their high spirits, looked forward to dances... Here's her dance card-

I snapped some pics on the way home, of rural scenes and lovely places.

that's a lot of heavy produce to load and unload for the farmer's market...Watermelons and cantaloupes, with flower pot and flags.
Like the turtles yesterday who scattered when I approached, the many birds around the garden at the library flew off when I drove up. I waited a while but only a few re-landed, too far away to get a clear pic. This is an Eastern Bluebird.
Lots of birdhouses around the garden at the Library make it an attractive home for birds, so I have a good chance of seeing some even in the height of the day when they usually aren't around during that time
