Hi friends! Whenever I showed my French-Canadian Grammie something cute she would say "Well, isn't that cunnin'!" I don't know where the term came from but it was widely used in
Maine to indicate that something is adorable. This palette is certainly "cunnin".
I've really been struggling with the want monster and when I saw this cute watercolor palette he busted out of his cage and had to have it. I don't know if it was its demure size, the matching holster I could hook to my belt loop, or the vision of yet another way I would effortlessly be able to paint on my summer hikes, but whatever it was, I was sold. I didn't even know if it came with paint. In today's video, we will look at the Funto Pocket palette, holster, and paint and see if the quality is up to snuff and if it might be right for you.
Several people asked if the leather pouch would fit the Portable Painter Micro, but it doesn't. The Micro is a bit too long for it to snap.
Pros:
- The palette is sturdy and made of thick plastic that is not brittle.
- The hinges on the palette wings move easily but, they do not feel flimsy at all
- The palette is easy to open
- Comes with a swatch sheet, clip, carabineer, and holster
- The holster is well made, the stitching is perfect and it is very lightweight to wear clipped to a belt loop.
- A key ring is sewn into the back to attach to whatever you like.
- It is beautiful
Cons:
- The paint isn't great so I removed it and replaced it with some watercolor I had. You can squeeze paint in the sections after prying out the nuggets of paint it comes with. Each square will hold about a half pans worth of paint but standard half pans will not fit in the squares. If you are considering buying this for the paint I do not recommend it, instead you can get a better quality in 36 colors from the Meilang/Pretty Excellent set.*This is the palette I pulled the pans from to put in the Funto palette, it's the old style 52 color Pretty Excellent Meilang and they still have some and they're on sale!
Bottom Line: I bought this for the palette and I think it was worth the price for that. The paint is not great, it is like the Jerry Q Arts palette I reviewed many years ago in this video. On the upside, the colors are vibrant and would be suitable when bright, non-moving colors are what you want, especially on cardstock or coloring book pages.
PS I also showed a well-made wooden watercolor palette that was empty, here is the link for that if you are interested. I was very surprised at how nice it was for the price.
