A POEM In the heat and the sun while others have fun cavorting in ocean waves a and touring marble mansions and shopping in chic shops. I prefer to stop by the local cafe for a latte and bun, when all is said and done! T…
This poem was inspired in two ways: our family vacation to Newport, Rhode Island. Alone, on a morning walk along Bellevue Avenue, I decided to visit Marble House, one of the Gilded Age mansions. Almost as an afterthought, I meandered to the Chinese Tea House, built in 1914, on the estate. Drinking my caffe (not tea!), eating my scone (which I shared with above catbird), the quiet beauty of the place remained with me throughout that day.
The next day, traveling up the road, we visited a charming used books store, Dogtown Books, in Gloucester, Massachusetts. There, I purchased a former Library Edition copy of The Sparrow Bush rhymes by Elizabeth Coatsworth with wood engraving by Stefan Martin. Her poems are written in rhyme, a form that I find challenging. And, so, I challenged myself!
It is always a highlight of any time spent away from home, to seek out a good book store, purchase a book a poems, and then, find inspiration to create.
Ah, this is a post for another day - travels and bookstores!
