the wind and rain has stopped - for a day
so I dragged the big old warping reel outside to start another tea towel warp
it is worth the effort just to feel the sun
this is a crazy striped warp with eight different colours
trying to use up small cones that don't have enough yardage to use on their own
the weaving will be easy using just one colour but it may take three days to wind the warp
each stripe is only six threads with two blue between each - and I'm trying to follow a colour pattern
it's a lot of cutting and tying
the top, white yarn is shifu - handspun Japanese paper
one full sheet - it's good but not the paper I hoped for
if anyone knows where to get good, Japanese paper for spinning please let me know
below it is handspun 2 ply hemp
daughter-in-law brought back a pkg. of gold cricula cocoons from Sanjo Silk on Granville Island
at the bottom of picture -I have hand stitched them into a sheet - soaked in water and flattened first
and steam ironed after stitching - no Kathy they didn't melt, must be the real thing!
above - the 5"x 6" sheets are made from different silk worm cocoons in Madagascar
there is still a good handful of small, scrappy cocoons left waiting for inspiration
they are not spinable (is that a word?)
and now I'm off to sit in the sun
