Move It On Project 3: May-June 2024

I had chosen May and June's Move It On Project, but for various reasons I've only just got round to getting it out for a proper look. So the focus for the third Move It On Project of the year is to complete and bind the pages for the Springboard Project that I taught at In The Stitch Zone back in Autumn 2022. There were ten prompts:

  • Wrap
  • Fold
  • Knot
  • Twist
  • Cut
  • Fray
  • Layer
  • Weave
  • Scrunch
  • Mend

At the moment I have six samples (three pages) completed and attached to the pages, ready for binding. The samples are slightly off set on the pages so I have room to stitch them together. From left to right: Wrap, Fray and Fold.

And on the other side: Knot, Layer, Scrunch.

Then there are the remaining four pages, two of which are completed, one is definitely still under construction and one is probably not quite there yet. From the left, Mend, Twist and Weave. Twist and Weave are definitely finished but Mend feels like it needs something more than the three small patches/mends I've done already.

And lastly, Cut. This one is an exercise in needleweaving the negative spaces in between the leaf shapes of the batik print. Not one I like a great deal, as I feel the needleweaving is dominating the leaves, but the point of the project was to experiment and that sometimes means finding out what you don't like. The last time I shared it was April 2023. I'd just put it onto a piece of pale green silk and it looked like this:

I've done a fair bit more since then - mainly to try and get it finished and out of the way - and it now looks like this:

I reckon there are at least two more bits to cut out and weave as well as the one I've just started before I consider it done. This is going to be a bit like eating the bit on your plate you don't like so you can enjoy the rest and I really want to get onto the fun part of putting the pages together and binding the book.
