I have been doing a lot of "couch sketching" in the mornings lately and this DIY gadget I am about to show you has made it so neat and easy! I have been using it for a month and I can say it was the best 15 minutes of usefulness I have spent in my sketching journey. Watch the video and see how ridiculously easy this DIY is! Supplies (Affiliate links used) - Board: I used 1/4" Masonite but you can use any thin hard material, I cut mine to 6"x11" but you can make yours any size. One viewer on YouTube said she used a clipboard, how perfect is that?!?
- Utility knife
- Metal edge ruler
- Clips with magnets (for holding a palette, or you can just glue strong magnets to the board) *Dollar Tree has both the binder and magnetic clips!
- Binder clips (for holding the sketchbook to the board.
- Drill bit gauge or circle template (I like the circle template idea more because you can use the ruler and larger circles for drawing!
I made this to paint outside with but it has been most handy for my couch session sketching and I think it would be great for folks who like to draw in bed. Think outside the box! Would you make one of these? Like I said in the video, this is not my idea and there are fancy ones you can buy by Stablo or from makers on Etsy. This works for me and I used what I had.
