Had nooo idea this bag was even a *thing* until one of my tiktok-frequenting friends said it was one of the viral styles she saw on there. It is a clear sign of the generational gap I guess that I don't enjoy browsing tiktok (the interface and algorithm bug me haha), nor do I see the appeal of this bag, other than if you're completing a Y2K-themed costume. Picture Hilary Duff with a hair-firework bun and butterfly clips.
It's pretty basic, is pretty much all I can say about it. Unless your name starts with a D, I can't imagine this having any longevity, design-wise. The leather is smooth and scratch-prone. The bag is structured and not too heavy. The shoulder strap is not adjustable. The letter D hardware is the heaviest element of the bag
Very standard finishing, not too bad compared to some others I've seen out there at this price point.
Machine-sewn stitches
With some messy segments as seen in the threads sticking out below

Bottom gusset closeup:
Inside: simple magnet closure, and an extra strap--although I'm confused by this extra strap because I feel like it doesn't really go with the look, especially because the main shoulder strap isn't removable
One glaring sign of the leather's quality: all that cracking where the leather gently folds for the flap. Considering this isn't even a harshly folded area of the bag, it does not bode well that the leather would already show cracks there whilst brand new.
Inside, there is a main compartment, a flat front compartment, and a smaller flat compartment created in the in-between space of the two.
This construction for the interior part where the strap folds over twice to create the loop for the detachable other strap to latch onto is a bit clunky to me. Not sure how well this would hold up over time, considering there are so many perforations in the same area
Close up, you can see as well how the leather is puckering, and how messy the stitches look
POV when you're using the bag
There's also another interior pocket
The thick portion of thread there (holding the compartments together) is when they finish a row of machine stitches by hand. This is done by leaving a longer than usual piece of thread after you sew with the machine, then you go back and thread the ends through a hand-sewing needle, just so you can go over a certain area over and over for reinforcement. Some areas that need extra reinforcement can also be hand-stitched this way, even if it's not at the end of a row of machine-sewn stitches. Some brands use this to be able to say that a bag was "handmade" or "hand stitched", but it is not essentially true. Beware that kind of false advertising. It's kind of like bags that were made in China but sent to Italy for finishing just so it can get the label "Made in Italy"
The Diesel 1DR bag is 425€ (based on the unit I saw in La Rinascente) or around 465USD (based on farfetch). It's not horrendously expensive, but I do think the cracking that's visible on the leather already makes it a big no no. If you find a pristine unit with no cracking, and you love the Y2K look and want this bag, then by all means, spend away. But I think that there are other bags/ deals that you can get at or around this price point that are of better quality, or other bags similar to this that you could get for much less. In any case, better to be armed with the info before you get your wallet involved :))
This bedazzled denim one is especially Y2Kish :))
