april wrap up: purple flowers and death comes to pemberly.

May 1

Happy May! Summer may be on the horizon but it's still cold here in Seattle. We've had some nice days and some not-nice days. But the days are getting longer and the flowers are blooming. I saw one of my favorite flowers the other day when I was on my way to the grocery store. I looked it up in my plant identifier app and I believe it's called a camas and it's a wildflower found in the Northwest. I love the vibrant purple color as well as the star shape! I'm always on the lookout for this flower and love seeing it.

Here is my monthly wrap-up of some of the things I was up to in April.

What I'm eating:
I'm still obsessed with breakfast burritos. I made a batch to eat last month and I'm pretty sure I ate one almost every workday. They're still my favorite.

What I'm watching:
I finally watched Death Comes to Pemberly on PBS. It came out in 2013 so it's only taken me 10 years to watch it. I love Pride and Prejudice so I was pretty sure I was also going to like this TV miniseries. Death Comes to Pemberly is based on a book by P.D. James and takes place six years after the events in Pride and Prejudice. George Wickham, his wife Lydia, and Captain Denny are traveling to Pemberly to attend a ball. On their way there, Wickham and Denny get into a fight and Denny storms out of the carriage with Wickham following. After hearing gunshots, Darcy sends out a search party who finds Wickham distraught, holding Denny's body.

The show was really good. I thought the story was interesting and I liked the mystery of who the killer was. My only criticism was that I didn't love the actress who played Elizabeth. I'm not sure if it was her acting or the way the part was written, but she didn't have the charisma of my favorite Elizabeth, Jennifer Ehle. I didn't see the playfulness that Elizabeth is supposed to possess. I also hoped that we would have seen more of the other Bennet sisters. Lydia was there, and I thought her part was fabulous, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Bennet but that's it. We saw Jane for about two short scenes but no more. I would have thought, with Darcy and Bingley being such good friends, that Bingley and Jane would have been in the show more. Perhaps they are in the book, but there just wasn't enough room for the miniseries??

Where I'm traveling:
Last month I crossed off a bucket list item and went to London. I loved it! I can't say enough amazing things about London. I loved the architecture, I loved riding the Tube, I loved the palaces, and I really loved all the great desserts I ate. More on this adventure later!

What else I'm doing:
I've been looking for a new apartment to move into. I'm not in love with downtown Seattle anymore. The vibe has changed, a lot of the stores I used to go to have left, and my apartment building seems to be falling apart (at least one out of our two elevators has been broken for the past eight months). I've looked at a few places to move into and I think I've narrowed it down to an area. Now I'm just waiting for an apartment to become available at the right price. Unfortunately, my lease is up during the summer which I feel is an expensive time to move because I think a lot of people move during the summer months. I'll figure something out. It might mean going month to month on my current lease and waiting until the fall or winter to move in the hopes that it might be a little less expensive. We'll see. The adventures of apartment living, right?!

See you next month!
