I got up early an researched and wrote a lengthy essay on Puritan missionary John Eliot, AKA 'Apostle to the Indians.' After I finished and had breakfast, I was restless. I decided to go out for an hour. I'd check the mail, drive the 5 miles to my favorite vintage store, and check out the notepad section (I'm running low at school on notepads), and see what else I could see.
It's a pleasant day- sunny and warm without being hot. The heat will come soon enough here in Georgia, so I enjoy getting out now, during spring. In Summer when you open the front door the heat from the parking lot sears your lungs like a blast furnace and the car is even hotter than Hades. Ugh.
So the vintage store was having a sale on $5 fill a bag books, and also the discount rooms are $5 fill-a-bag. I also had seen a teapot I liked in the 'Just in' preview photos she puts up on Facebook. I have several teapots but need one more of the right size. I have 2-cup pots and 6,8 cup pots but only 2 in the medium size. This one was not vintage. It was made in 2002, from California Pantry. Blue Rooster. Unless 2002 is considered vintage now. Ouch. Yes, I see that Apartment Therapy says vintage can be anything not less than 20 years old up to 100 years old...
I liked the shape as well as the size-
I got a handmade Balinese journal with handmade paper inside and cover made of natural materials like Waru leaves, twigs, banana tree bark, wild pea pods, and banana leaf. Sooo cool.
the item on the binding is a pen, it slides out and the pouch is made of natural grass.
How about a 1909 Sears Roebuck catalog? It's cool to look through but also nice to use for ephemera when crafting.
I love and use notepads. A lot of them. Many of these were of pretty design as well as functional. Several had a bird motif, which I like. They were part of the $5 fill-a-bag, along with the books:
The covered casserole dish is a Hoan French Casserole Dish, Round, Oven to Table, White Porcelain with Gold Trim. Only $7.50. It's intended for a friend.
The books are Jane Hamilton, Map of the World, Raymond Chandler 'book noir, The Little Sister, Cassandra King's Same Sweet Girls. Summer's coming and I want easy books to read.
I was home in a under an hour, having satisfied my browsing urge and need to get out of the apartment for a short while. I had a nice chat with the lady there and enjoyed the hilly scenery on the way to and from. Now sipping chilled herb tea and heating up some vegetarian chili for lunch. it's a Saturday and I am so glad for weekends!
Have a nice day everyone!
