day 50 - 10 fabric pages are finished
another scrappy page with sea and sky and Beacon Hill Park
this is only the Southern end of the park, on the highest hill looking over the ocean and across to the Olympic Mountains in Washington state
this high point is Beacon Hill where a navigation aid once stood
before the settlers came it was a popular area for the Lekwungen people (Songhees and Esquimalt nations)
a village at the bottom of the hill was occupied intermittently from approx. 1,000 AD
(the pictures below were taken from the little loop in the center of the stitched circle)
Coast Salish artist, Butch Dick carved the enlarged spindle whorl that is located on top of the hill
(I didn't think to measure it but it is much taller than I am)
the area is known as Meeqan - warmed by the sun
there are six more of these whorls situated in different areas around Victoria, each with different art work
maybe, when the weather warms up I'll visit and take pictures of each
and page 11 will be more of Beacon Hill Park
