She finally has her dream life, but someone wants to reveal the truth...
Claire Douglas ~ The Woman Who Lied
Synopsis
Emilia Ward is just an ordinary mum living happily in suburban London with her husband and two children - a teenager from her first marriage, a little boy from her second. She also happens to be the bestselling author of the Miranda Moody detective novels.
But when Emilia embarks on her tenth novel, life takes a disturbing turn: an incident straight out of the plot of one of her novels occurs in real life. Just an unsettling coincidence, she thinks.
Until it happens again - and again.
Then someone she knows dies in the same way as a victim in the book she's currently writing...
Review
Any thriller book featuring an author is an immediate yes from me, and the premise from this one was excellent. As someone who reads a lot of ARCs the idea of using that information to freak out an author is brilliant (I wish I'd thought of it).
The fact that we read Emilia's perspective, as well as the novel itself made for a particularly clever concept, as we were lulled into a false sense of security and never quite sure what was going on and who was telling the truth.
There were a lot of characters, but each one was well rounded, making them easy to keep track of in my mind. As with all Claire's books there are plenty of twists and turns; I always love it when someone I suspect winds up dead, because the author has cleverly played me and proved me wrong!
Gripping, timely and well-crafted, it was one I couldn't put down until I'd finished.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
Thanks to Penguin Michael Joseph for my proof copy. Opinions my own.
