Lebanese artist Chafa Ghaddar's Wildfire series at Art Dubai 2024
Extreme weather, healing, hope and the power of art will be some of the major themes to be showcased at the 17th edition of Art Dubai slated to begin from March 1st to 3rd, 2024. Held at Madinat Jumeirah, the annual art fair is a sought-after meeting point of the Global South's creative communities. More than 120 presentations drawn from 60 cities and over 40 countries will be displayed across four sections – Contemporary, Bawwaba, Art Dubai Modern and Art Dubai Digital.
Highlights include the Global Art Forum, a series of modern and collector discussions, a three-day digital summit and an art business conference. Art Dubai's Global Art Forum, the two-day summit from February 29 to March 1, titled "Whether or Not" will explore the cultures, technologies, sciences, and initiatives related to extreme weather and change. Art Dubai Modern Talks will highlight the artistic links made possible by Soviet geopolitics of the Cold War, shifting the focus from Western metropoles and focusing the conversations on the impact of Soviet education and exhibitions on artists from the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa. The conversations will delve into cultural exchanges between Kampala and Baku, Cairo and Moscow, Colombo and Almaty, and Rostov, Luanda and Ramallah. Eminent art historians, curators, and academics including Bilal Akkouche from Tate Modern, Dr Masha Kirosirova from NYU Abu Dhabi, Inga Lace from Almaty Museum of Art, Daudi Karungi from Afriart Gallery in Kampala, among others will be in attendance. Also Art Dubai Collector Talks will feature leading voices from the global art community including Sunil Munjal, Mohammed Afkhami, Nisreen Bajis, Hiba S Nesr, among others.

Engaging younger generations in workshops and activities will be Indian artist Sahil Naik, who will conduct the fourth edition of the A R M Holding Children's Programme. Campus Art Dubai will provide professional mentorship, training and hands-on experience to young graduates.
Swiss wealth management group Julius Baer will present a new digital installation -- Heart Space by contemporary artist, Krista Kim. Dubai Collection will showcase Encounters -- a curated group exhibition of several Emirati artists including Hassan Sharif, Mohammed Kazem, Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, Shaikha Al Mazrou, Afra Al Dhaheri, Maitha Abdallah, Hashel Al Lamki, and Sarah Almeheiri. The exhibition is curated by Alia Zaal Lootah.
Yet another significant commission in Art Dubai's Bawwaba gallery section under the theme Sanacion/Healing, will feature a series of performances and activations, focusing on introspection, spirituality, community and the power of art.
At the Huna Sculpture Park visitors will be able to view artworks by leading international artists, including Rana Begum, Shaikha Al Mazrou and Pablo Reinoso. Health and wellness experts, Clinique La Prairie will be unveiling a new artwork for their lounge by Syrian artist Sara Naim. An experiential installation on BMW i7 will feature motion driven projections of abstract forms and UAE's street life designed by Emirati artist Asma Belhamar.
