Each year the annual selection of the best political cartoons in Australia is hosted for nearly a year at Old Parliament House in Canberra. As someone interested in politics I love this tradition. I go early and I usually go back a few times. I have always had a deep sense of gratitude for the people who weave political and social insights into a striking visual story image. Downstairs in the building the cartoons are housed on the walls of a set of corridors that form a square so they can hang them in themes with room to consider them without interrupting other visitors.
I love the work of the people at Old Parliament House and one specific work is the website for this. They put all the images up on line and house an archive of past exhibitions that is easy to access. While there is something special about the physical presence of the cartoon in a frame on a wall. I have spend many happy hours cruising through the online resources.
