I've been writing through the last several turnings of the year, reflecting and prognosticating. It's taught me a lot about the flow of my year:
The homey productivity of deep winter and spring. This year: Dooner will be home in the mornings, but I have a lot to do, so we're going to find a way to do it together.
The outdoorsy peripatetic summer of new experiences. This year: Lord willing, we will have some interesting travels this summer, but we're waiting for approvals on things so I'll leave it at that.
The gathering snowball of fall into winter. This year: All three kids will be in school in the fall, so I'll theoretically have more time to work. But there are other left turns that might be coming.
I'll use this post to organize my thoughts and expectations for the year, and in December 2024, it will certainly be interesting to see how things turned out.
It took a lot of looking and thinking, but I distilled my my making hopes and dreams for 2024 into one 9-grid.

There are other projects to finish, and in-between things that I'll pick up and put down. Sewing projects will pop up and get finished; maybe I'll weave some of the warps under my bed or do some more sections of my EPP. But the above are the things most important to me.
This year is different because it's the first year where most of my making is centered around my professional career as a maker. You wouldn't believe how much I want to put scare quotes around "professional" and "career," but I think by two years from now, I will have a better sense of where my career will be going.
If I learned nothing else from 2023, it's that whatever happens, happens. But here are some things that I hope happen during 2024, in no particular order.
Podcasting and community facilitating at Wool n' Spinning - specifically, through the Wool Circle & Spinning Staples. We have a HUGE book study starting up in January - Read about it here, and listen about it here. I'm really excited about it, not to say a little scared!
Administrating at the Arthur Turner Training School. This is going to be a year of transition for our diocese, and we're very much still learning and growing as a school, so who knows what kind of left turns will happen there.
Health - I haven't written much here about my up and downs with physical health, diet, exercise, and all the rest of it. I have some fresh oomph in my self-care right now. I've gone and signed up for three months of Noom, and we'll see if that helps me get where I want to go. I think I've found my "why" - I'm worth the time and effort it takes to have the healthiest body I'm capable of having right now. So I have a target weight, before pictures, and I'm logging meals and all that nonsense. I have so much to say about this that I never get around to saying it. The main things are loving myself now, and not giving up.
Blogging, and the photography and writing that go with it. I've been shooting for a bare minimum this year of a monthly round-up post and one more, and that's mostly happened. I actually wrote 50 posts this year, though some of them were clustered in spurts.
Being present as a member of my community in Rankin Inlet. That's what "ministry" means to me right now.
There's other, more personal stuff, and other sillier stuff. I have lots of movies I want to watch in 2024! And I hope our Family Bible Reading Time (we already abbreviate it to FBRT) continues and develops organically as our kids grow. If nothing else, I hope I enjoy my making, no matter how professional it gets. And I sure hope you enjoy your making too.
And I hope YOU, dear reader, have a blast-off start to your year! What are your biggest hopes and dreams right now?
