in years past I've had a plan - a year of backstrap weaving, natural dyeing, tapestry etc.
this year I haven't found the start button and I looked and did some deep thinking but .......
I found an interesting online workshop, the timing wasn't right and it was expensive
then another workshop - it seemed made for me - I ordered the teacher's book, it will arrive in a week or two
meanwhile, while I think, I spin - and ideas can spin as fast as the spindle
wonderful, soft cotton in a natural butterscotch colour
shown here on my day 5 gift - a book about a cat named Wabi Sabi - illustrated with paper collages by Ed Young and written by Mark Reibstein with frequent haiku
what is wabi sabi?
"it finds beauty and harmony in what is simple, imperfect, natural, modest and mysterious".
and because I also need something to stitch while I think
I decided to try creating the heart blocks shown in the quilt by Janet Haigh
maybe a blanket for the Happy Gang?
my badly stitched blanket
I'm not a quilter so getting started definitely has had its challenges
using only scraps and fabric from the stash the two main colours are red and green - too Christmas-y but it's what was available
and the bears like it!
a small scrappy sample to try different stitches
it seemed essential to work some blue into the colour mix
this is not going to use much of the stash and will definitely make more, smaller scraps
c'est la vie
if you are looking for inspiration a great place to find an endless variety of craftspeople, work and techniques is http://www.textileartist.org
in her profile, Mirjam Gielen, a Dutch embroidery artist writes
"if I run out of steam it's o.k. to rest for a bit. My mojo won't get lost. I can't lose what truly belongs to me and if it doesn't truly belong to me, it's o.k. to lose it."
and so I will start this new year with that thought in mind
peace and blessings to you all
