last week it looked like Spring was on the way
even the pesky deer were out and about
the fencing protects the ginko tree - very slow growing and a favorite to nibble on
the mild winter suddenly became a deep freeze with - morning temperature -10 C. and -17 when factoring in the wild chill, record breaking for Victoria
farther north it has been as cold as -40 C.
it has been a challenge to keep the humming bird feeders thawed out for even an hour
wrapping them in bubble wrap helps
can you see her in the top left corner? she has been sitting there all day, drinking occasionally
sorry, I took it through the window - she is already stressed out enough without me going out there to take a picture
my New Year's book arrived - "Art Quilt Maps" author Valerie Goodwin
I have loved maps since I was in elementary school and learned to read marine charts when we lived and cruised on a sailboat
I haven't finished reading but am very happy with the contents
my living room/dining room wall is papered with genuine marine charts, all from areas we sailed in
Southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands
Victoria
and now to explore translating maps and maybe charts into textile art
something new for the new year
