I read 68 books in 2023. My goal was to read 75 books so I didn't quite meet my goal but I still read a lot! Reading remains my favorite hobby but I have been branching out into some other pastimes that sometimes take me away from reading. Nevertheless, there is nothing like curling up on the couch with a good book. Although I didn't meet my reading challenge goal, I did read some fun and entertaining books in 2023.
Here's my 2023 reading in review:
Number of books read: 68
This averages out to just a little bit over 1.3 books read per week.
Number of pages read: 23,986
Averages out to approximately 461 pages read a week.
Longest book:
Iron Flame at 640 pages.
Shortest book:
The List at 112 pages.
Average Book Length:
352 pages. I read some long books this year including Fourth Wing (500 pages) and Iron Flame (640 pages) both by Rebecca Yarros, and Legacy (464 pages) by Nora Roberts.
According to Goodreads, my average rating was 3.2 stars. This is funny because that is exactly the same as my average rating from 2022 and also because I feel like I haven't read many great books lately. I honestly thought my average rating would be lower than 3.2 because I feel that I've rated a lot of books as 2 stars this year. But I do tend to rate most books around 3 or so (or as Goodreads likes to say "It was good"). I only rated 1 book in 2023 as 5 stars.
Books by genre:
Fiction – 65
Nonfiction – 3
I really tried to read more nonfiction this year and I checked out a lot of nonfiction books from the library but I never got around to reading them and usually returned them unopened.
Books read for book club – 3
The last book I read for my book club was in April. I think there was another book later on in the year but I didn't read it and then my book club didn't really meet up the rest of the year. We had a lot of trouble coordinating schedules so it usually ended up being just a couple of us meeting up for happy hour with no book discussion.
Books by acquisition type:
58 books were borrowed from the library
10 books were owned by me
I really leaned into checking books out from the library this year! Of the 10 books I read that were owned by me, 5 of them were holiday novels which I tend to usually purchase because then I don't have to worry about the book being available at the library.
Books by format:
Paperback – 28
Hardback – 31
Ebooks – 9
All of the hardback books I read this year were checked out from the library. I don't especially like buying hardback books, because they are so expensive. I let the library buy those!
Happy reading!!
