The Maple Sugar Inn is the perfect winter wonderland escape. It also happens to be where Erica, Claudia, and Anna have picked for their annual book club vacation. However, not everything is as perfect as it seems. Claudia has just lost her job, Anna is dealing with the reality of her and her husband becoming empty nesters, and Erica has an ulterior reason for choosing this hotel. Hattie, the owner of the Maple Sugar Inn, is exhausted from running the hotel and being a single mom. But as the week goes on, these four women will come together to change all their lives.
First off, can I just say that I love the idea of having a book club at a hotel for a week. This sounds amazing and I must suggest to my friends. I would love to go and chill out at a hotel and sit in the library to discuss books.
I loved the friendship in this book. Erica, Claudia, and Anna have been friends since college and their friendship is so heartwarming. I liked the way they teased each other and talked about anything that was on their minds. Again, the setting of the book was perfect. This cozy Vermont inn sounds like the best place to go during the wintertime.
The only thing I found a bit annoying was the continuous discussions about turning 40. I definitely rolled my eyes when one of the characters laments because she's turning 40 and she hasn't found love and will she ever find love? I felt like, for a book that was supposed to be about women's friendship, there was a lot of relationship/man drama. But, like all romances, everything works out in the end.
I'm so glad I started off my holiday reading with this book!
