Last week I got together with some of my friends from my book club for our annual holiday ornament exchange. We used to do an ornament exchange with everyone in book club but these past few years it's been hard for everyone to get together at the same time. So a few of us decided to do our own exchange. Last year we went to Smith Tower for drinks, which I had never been there before. It was really cool; there's a little tour you can take on the first floor that has exhibits, and then you can take the elevator up to the observatory floor which is where the restaurant is.
We tried to go back to Smith Tower this year, but when we got there we saw that it was closed for the evening for a private event. We ended up going to another restaurant we like in the area. We had some drinks, ate some pizza, and exchanged our ornaments. As always, it was fun and I love hanging out with these ladies.
On Saturday, I had to do some shopping so I took the bus over to Bellevue Square. I really like this mall - it has almost every store you would want to go into. The only thing that would make this mall better is if it had a bookstore. There used to be a Barnes and Noble a block from the mall but it's moved. The mall was not as crowded as I thought it would be. I did see some people in some interesting holiday outfits. I'm not sure if they dressed up for fun or were getting their picture taken with Santa, but it was quite entertaining.
Also, on Saturday, I went to Top Pot and got one of their holiday doughnuts. First off, I love Top Pot doughnuts. They can be a little sweet, but the cake part of the doughnut is so good. They are definitely a treat for me. Throughout the year they will have specialty flavored doughnuts and they always have holiday flavors during the holidays. Right now they have eggnog cake and peppermint snowdrift doughnuts. I am not a huge fan of eggnog so I went with the peppermint snowdrift doughnut. It is a chocolate doughnut with peppermint icing and sprinkles and it was delicious!
I might go back and try the eggnog doughnut, just to see what it tastes like. I guess if I don't like there are plenty of other doughnuts that I can get instead.
That's all for this blog post - just some random holiday tidbits from my weekend. I also ran the Jingle Bell Run 5k today - more on that tomorrow!
