Last week's post announced that on Saturday November 18 at 1 pm EST that I am beginning a weekly half-hour of open workshops, to share methods of making paper designs based on techniques developed by the people of the Seminole Tribe who live in Florida.

Seminole Patchwork with Paper, Rain and Storm pattern
Here's why I'm doing these classes: I recently started studying the Seminole method of making patterns, and became completely smitten. I spent a good be of time translating their way of working with fabric into a way of doing the same thing with paper. I am hoping that by sharing the techniques I've developed that we can inspire each other and create a body of work that we can all reference.
I am leaning into the fact that you all take what I have to offer and go your own way with it, showing me possibilities that enrich my own relationship to the work I've shared with you. While I hope you follow my directions exactly during our short teaching sessions, I know you will try out your own color combinations, sizes of designs, and different ways that you use what you've learned. I will tell you now that I will be encouraging you to send me photos of your work each week, which I will post to a Pinterest board so that we can learn from each other.
Last week I recommended that people buy a pack of assorted Astrobrights cover weight paper. I stand by that recommendation. For those of you like the convenience of having the papers (including the PDFs) that I will be using, for a short time you can buy, from me, a pack the colored papers and the pdfs I will be using for the first four weeks of these workshops (after four weeks, you're on your own). I'm charging $16 with free shipping. It will contain about 15 sheets of the cover weights colored paper I will using, and about 15 sheets total of four different pdfs of lines, printed on 20lb paper. That said, if you have colored paper and a printer, there is no reason, other than convenience, to buy my pack. Oh, hopefully I will put in a small glue brush too with the pack, unless (because it doesn't bend) it drives up the postage into the next level.
That's it for now. See you soon!
Oh, one more thing: the first motif we will learn is simple. My biggest focus will be on technique. As the weeks progress, be warned this magnificent system of making designs will your brain hurt. Promise.
