A number of years ago I fell in love with the Proenza Schouler PS1 bag. I loved the shape for both professional and private use, and it had so many pockets and compartments. For me, it was the perfect work and travel bag.
My favourite version was actually the black one in the large size, which was made of more sturdy leather. But the price was way too high for me. After a couple of years I found a purple one that was the most gorgeous purple blue (blurple?) at less than half-price - still expensive, but I went for it anyway. The purple leather was softer and thinner than the black.
I did use this bag quite a bit but was always afraid of tearing or overloading it because of the delicate leather. To be fair to the bag, and Proenza Schouler, it never showed any wear at all.
A couple of years after I had sold my Purple Rain PS1, I found a brown one in a thrift store and bought it immediately.
It was exactly the same as my PS1 in almost every way, and the leather was identical to the black one I originally coveted. The only things that were different were the strap and the back pocket. My PS1 had clips on the strap, and this one didn't.
It also had a back slip pocket, whereas my purple one had had a zip
I couldn't believe that a 'fake' bag was so alike in every way, including the leather and label, but had such obvious differences.
I did not like the idea of using a fake, but the design is so perfect for me that I have actually used it quite a bit.
An absolutely wonderful reader - Justin - solved the problem for me recently. The answer was simple, but I would never have figured it out by myself. Both bags were never in my possession at the same time and so I would never have realised it, but they were different sizes. A couple of years had passed between me selling the purple one and buying the brown one, so I had forgotten the dimensions.
My original PS1 was a Large. The one I bought inthe thrift shop was an Extra Large, which had slight differences in design. Hence the back slip pocket instead of the zip pocket, and the fact that the XL had TWO straps, and one of them (missing on mine) was the one with the clips.
I researched further and found that the extra large version is often missing the clip strap when listed for sale. Maybe people removed and misplaced them. And answers to some questions:
