How can Norwood lose with this "oomph seven" cheering them to another win over their Thanksgiving rival, Dedham? It will be "Rah, Rah, Rah" for these lassies at the Dedham field on Thanksgiving morning.
Left to right are Eileen Nugent, Mary Kozak, Jane Costello, Shirley Engel, Molly Riemer, Kathleen Meissner, and Mary Murray. And there is little doubt that Norwood is way out front in beauty.

They say that a pretty face can be a wonderful aid in convalescence. If that's the case the nursing profession is indeed fortunate for four of the Norwood high school "Oomph 7" are contemplating nursing careers.
These seven girls have attracted much attention from spectators at the Norwood games with their attractiveness and cheerleading ability during the past two months. The group needn't worry about holding up the wall at dances nor hooking the fellow man, for if the men don't watch out they'll hook themselves. The 7 radiate life and youthfulness and the spark of mischief in their eyes is attention-getting.
One of the girls, Mary Murray, holds the distinction of being the fourth member of the family to serve as a cheerleader on the hill. Other Murray's to precede were Tina, '30; Anna, '34 and Peggy, '36. Miss Murray is active in the school social functions, enjoys dancing and swimming, is interested in dramatics, and will attend a prominent business school next fall.
Eileen Nugent forms one half of the sister-brother combination at the school which adds a decided human interest touch to the football picture. Big Jim Nugent, an 187-pound right tackle simply can't fall down on the job with sister Eileen inspiring him to play the perfect game. Eileen is a popular personality about town, and is one of the four future nurses. She has played the organ at St. Catherine's Church for many years, and has provided the piano accompaniment to all of the school operettas since her late grade school days. Eileen, who plays the piano for Professor Dethier's orchestra, served as president of the high school dramatic club last year.
The squad is captained by pert Shirley Engel, whom her cheerleading compatriots call the "dimpled darling". Shirley has served as barker for two years and admits that it's fun. Shirley intends to be a medical secretary, and will receive her training at La Salle Junior College. Miss Engel is a Quest club representative, served as captain of the sophomore basketball team, and enjoys dancing and swimming.
Molly Riemer, also known as the "little debutante," is the typical all-around girl. She is the best dancer, and jumping, jiving jitterbug in the school, plays a prominent part in school dramatics, and public recitals enjoys all types of athletics, is steady tennis player, and served as captain of last year's team. Molly plans to attend Connecticut College for Women next year.
The "Cutest Girl"
Jane Costello is the leading candidate for "cutest girl" honors, and as one of her cheerleading pals said, "She doesn't have to say clever things, all she has to do is look." That tells the story, for Jane is the beauteous seventh of the "7 Oomphs." Janey is "regular" and enjoys all of the sports, is active on the various committees, and will matriculate at a prominent college next year.
Mary Kozak, is the "ideal girl." Practically all of the male members of the class of 1938 agreed that Miss Kozak was distinctive and appealing to them. Her warmhearted friendship and quick smile is infectious. Miss Kozak is another nurse to-be. She takes a stiff college course, is a good athlete, plays on the school basketball team, and holds a prominent post on the various social committees.
Kathleen Meissner was given the honor of representing the Junior class on the present group of cheerleaders, and will captain next year's cheer team. Kay is still debating whether to become a nurse or to take up commercial illustrating. Miss Meissner has mastered the art of making friends and is an excellent mixer. She is active in dramatics, enjoys most sports and derives keen pleasure from dancing.
There you have it. A short preview of the group who will do their utmost to get you. norwoodites to yell inspiring exhortations to a valiant Norwood team Thursday morning. The entire seven can also do a pretty fair job of sewing and cooking, in short they are domestic.
"What say heap chief 'Big Wolf,' you like em?" "Oomph."
