Wrote this in my Tumblr account last 2019:
"I have never seen an incense stick before. Here in the Philippines, people use the term 'incense' for coal-burning stuff that they put in a pot. They are the complete opposite of our neighboring countries' incense.
A pastor in our church shared what he realized while he was in Singapore. He was walking aimlessly when he passed by a funeral. Outside the funeral, two incense sticks were burning-- the source of the aroma that can be smelled in the area. While observing the burning of the sticks, it strucked him on how this process is very similar to life.
In order for us to smell the fragrance of an incense stick, we have to light it up. Before it will release its aroma, the incense stick has to be burned first. In life, if we want to release our own fragrances, we must first be burned. We must be willing to go through fire to fulfill our purpose. That purpose is to be kind and give joy to others.
The question here is: Are you willing to go through fire forgetting about the self and focusing on others? Are you willing to sacrifice for a greater purpose?
An incense stick is insignificant until it is lit.
Before our pastor ended, he said this, "The wind that blew off the candle is the same wind that sparks up the fire." "
