SCHOOLS OF NORWOOD.
New Balch Building to Open Tomorrow—Assignment of 12 New Teachers in Various Districts.
NORWOOD, Sept 2—The public schools of Norwood open next Wednesday for the Fall term. This date is earlier than usual in this town. The work on the new Balch School Building has proceeded so far that the building is now plastered. It is the most modern of any of the buildings. There are 12 recitation rooms, each of which will accommodate 42 pupils. There is a smaller additional recitation room, a library, a nurse's room, a principal's office and teacher's room. The new building will be completed this Fall, and will relieve the congestion of other schools.
Twelve new teachers are to begin work here. In the High School Miss Helen L. Colby, a graduate of Smith College, will have charge of the work in history and English, in place of Miss Sarah S. Cummings. Miss Colby had taught in Cohasset and her home is in South Boston.
At the Everett School Miss Wilda L. Vose, a graduate of the Castine, Me, Normal School, will be in charge of a room to be made up of pupils in the eighth and ninth grade. Miss Vose will have 20 pupils from the eighth grade and 15 from the ninth grade, chosen for their excellence in scholarship.
At the Guild School Miss Lucy H. Brooks, a graduate of the Worcester Normal School will have charge of a room to be made up of pupils from grades one and two. Miss Brooks and Miss Vose both have had experience In the schools of Lunenburg. Miss Brooks' home is in Ashby.
At the Shattuck School, Miss Mabelle A. Douglas, a graduate of the Plymouth. N H, Normal School, will teach the fifth grade. Her home is in Wolfboro, N H. Miss Anne G. Adams of Fairfield Center, Me, will teach the third grade. Miss Adams is a graduate of the Farmington, Me. Normal School. Miss Bertha M. Richardson of Littleton. N H. a graduate of the Plymouth N H, Normal School of the class of 1912. will teach a room to be made up of first and second-grade pupils.
At the Winslow School. Miss Anastasia M. Kelly of Hopkinton, Mass, will teach the seventh grade. She is a graduate of the Framingham Normal School. Miss Ina M. Balch, a graduate of the Johnson, Vt, Normal School, will teach the sixth grade. Miss Balch has been teaching in a private school at Knoxville, Ill. Miss Martha S. Steele, a graduate of the Farmington, Me, Normal School, will teach the third grade. Miss Rosa M. Bowker will teach the first grade. Miss Bowker is a graduate of Miss Wheelock's Kindergarten Training School.
Miss Agnes M. Adams, who will teach the second grade at the East School, comes from Halifax, Mass.
Mr. Roland V. Fitzroy, instructor in manual arts, is a graduate of the Fitchburg Normal School. On Sept 22 an evening school will be opened at the High School building.
