A month ago a small group of Sketchers traveled down to East Palatka to a bend in the river for some really good seafood. On the way down we passed the very cute and historic diner in Palatka, Angels, and promised to stop there on the way home (more about that later). It's too hot now to eat outside, but there are lovely tables on the river for when it gets cooler, and the inside was full of fun. Gators were everywhere, including an FSU gator! From 3 FSU grads in my car, we said whoever heard of such a thing? We did not photo the UF gator, but the others were certainly food for our sketches. It's worth the drive, folks. We were very capably served by Gwen and Samantha. Thank you.
There is another Corky Bell's in Fleming Island, and two of our Sketchers inadvertently went there. For some unknown reason, they apparently ended up at Metro Diner to sketch.
On the way home, we did stop at Angels, the oldest diner in Florida. Our mission was to try their famous drink, the Pusalow. What? It's chocolate milk and vanilla syrup over ice topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Nobody seems to know where the name came from.... but it was good. It was a fun pink and green place with some beautiful old stained glass in one window. (I came here a couple of years ago for lunch when we were painting the carpenter gothic churches along the St. Johns River so my sketch is dated 2021. The burgers and onion rings were to die for, as I recall).
