A spinoff from the Rules of the Game series, The Husband Game was a fabulous read.
Dustin and Charlie's marriage may have started as a drunken accident but they grew into a wonderful couple with a marriage they worked hard for.
After meeting Charlie in Unwritten Rules, it was great to get to know him properly and learn more about his struggle with his eating disorder and his toxic family. I adored Charlie, though my heart broke for him due to all he had been through and all he still struggled with. I enjoyed seeing him gain a better sense of himself through the steadfast support he gets from Dustin and through the new friendships he makes with the guys and their partners from the Fisher Cats.
Dustin is a person who takes on too much and feels he has to be perfect and there for everyone around him whilst not realising what it is he needs for himself. Charlie changes all of that and helps him gain a work/life balance and a relationship he didn't realise he wanted. Dustin is a very loyal and true friend to everyone around him and this goes double for his relationship with Charlie.
I loved the way these two men navigated their marriage and the way they both wanted to be able to support each other to achieve their goals and be happy. They really grew together well, it wasn't a smooth journey but they both learned a lot about themselves along the way. It took a lot for Charlie to eventually open up to Dustin about his anorexia but when he did, Dustin was so supportive and I loved the way he asked Charlie what he could do to help him and really listened to what he said. So many people don't actually hear what the other person is saying and think they know better but Dustin took on board what Charlie asked of him and did everything he could to make his struggle with food easier.
Another thing I adored about Dustin was how he truly accepted Charlie for who he was and wasn't shy about telling him he loved the way Charlie dressed and encouraging him to continue to be himself despite any pushback Dustin may have gotten, he truly wanted Charlie to shine.
These two are my new favourite couple.
I enjoyed catching up with the guys from the Rules of the Game series and getting to know some of them a bit more, I'm looking forward to more Relationship Goals books.
