I live just off the main drag in a town. Out my front door I look at the back of a concrete mini-strip mall. Across the street from that, looming over the street on a hill, is a huge hardware store. Next door to that with its oversize neon sign is a Mexican restaurant. Next to me on one side is the side of a family style restaurant and its dumpsters and storage shed. None of it is very pretty. It sure is convenient though. I have my dentist, my doctor, my pharmacy, my work, the library, grocery store and a variety of restaurants within a mile and a half. Next to me on the other side of my 3-apartments apartment building is a grassy lawn and a pond with ducks and geese that sometimes waddle around. Behind me is a mini-forest with old growth and lots of birds and an occasional owl. I see fireflies, hear peepers and crickets at night.
Focus on the beauty. And just a half mile off the main drag is rural beauty everywhere. I mean everywhere! beauty in horses, cows, pastures, farms. It's glorious. Just a mile and a half from me at the Library/Senior Center and Recreation fields complex is a garden rimmed with bird houses.
There is opportunity for lots of good bird pics there. So when I went to the library to pick up my book, I snapped a few. Here you go.
Look how beautifully this butterfly is camouflaged on this flower!
