The new strictly stock non-Ford division for novice drivers will run their initial race Saturday night at Norwood Arena. North American Racing Association has registered Chevrolets, Hudsons and Buicks for this newly formed stock division.
Fred Luchesi, Pawtucket, R. I. has moved up to one point of leader Red Barbeau, Woonsocket in the Sportsman division Hop Harrington, Pawtucket will challenge Luchesi for second spot.
Leo Cleary, Quincy with 221 points will contend for first spot in the Bomber division, against Larry Antonellis, Quincy who has built a 25-point lead over Cleary. Bob Sprague, Foxboro with 175 pts. will vie for Cleary's second spot.
COMING TO NORWOOD ARENA! — Shown here are Gene Holter's famous racing ostriches that will be seen at the Norwood Arena Auto Race Track one night only on Wednesday, July 10, as part of a huge outdoor show featuring wild animals, stock car races and three auto daredevil shows competing against each other In a program of wrecking, crashing, smashing events. Prominent Greater Boston citizens will drive in the Ostrich Races. The birds are guided only by a broom — if the ostrich starts off to the right too far, the broom Is put alongside the right eye—then the bird turns a little left, and that Is the way he Is guided In a straight path. These birds travel 40 miles an hour, stand 6 ft. 6 inches high and weigh 185 pounds. Sometimes they have even been known to stop during a race and lay an egg in the event of rain the entire show will be held on the following night.
