as the days drift bye and most of my time is spent in the garden

I occasionally stop and play with found materials

stitching leaves, twisting corn husks and rhubarb fibre

and continuing to cut coffee filters

non of them are very successful but it is entertaining to give them a try

Abby and Bella are helping to gather the Lady's Mantle blossoms ready for dyeing

Bella is happy to play in the dirt in her new overalls

and she has a new yellow blouse with a matching skirt

a new warp on the loom - fine linen and hemp - again four different threads wound together

but there is a problem! - one of the threads is breaking, it wears thin passing through the beater

when weavers frequently worked with linen they sized the warp yarns with some kind of homemade paste

Scandinavian weavers are famous for their beautiful, fine handwoven linens - so here are some suggestings and sizing recipes from VAV magazine

http://en.vävmagasinet.se/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Sizing-linen-warp_VAV_16_2_Eng.pdf

it is time consuming and messy - I have had good luck in the past using spray starch

yesterday I spent the day going from store to store looking for spray starch - two store ladies even told me they don't own an iron

one of those people told me her daughter loved her sewing class in high school and chastised her Mom for not having a sewing machine

the world is changing - at least there still is a Home Ec class

now, back to the search for spray starch or I will be boiling linseed

nature is the ultimate designer and you can never go wrong with the colours
