I got to work on the second round of sketches, and played with color and fonts in InDesign.
The Chosen Favorite: Column 2, Image 3
IMAGE 1: & 2 Played around with 70's color schemes and different fonts, trying to find a balance between legible and funky. IMAGE 3: My coworker liked the colors featured in the album cover Reset by Panda Bear/ Sonic Boom.
After completing Round 2 Rough Sketches, my coworker chose his favorite, and had some changes:
Have a string coming off the bubble. Remove the word "with." Have the letters J&B in or at the end of the string.
I made these changes and created a final inked sketch to:
Create the "final" look.
Confirm the logo before final render.
It truly felt like we were close to a final logo, but this ship was about to be blown off course…back to the very beginning.
The "Final" logo sketch
After showing the final drawing, I received edits back.
Remove the string and add a check mark piercing the bubble. change the show title to "Efforts Made". Change JB to "with Jenna & Brennan".
It was at this point that I realized the design was jumping around too much. It worried me that the design, title, and subtitle were changing with every round. I was expecting minor tweaks to the final design, but the final round did not come to the conclusive "That's it!" moment I was expecting.
I reached out to my coworker and suggested doing a video call as drawing live might help with nailing down the logo design. I also suggested losing the check mark as it didn't seem to fit the design. He agreed with the suggestions and we scheduled a call for an upcoming weekend.
A couple days after this communication, I received text messages from my coworker.
He had sent me a brand new logo design, completely different than what we had been working on, along with inspirational images for look, feel and colors.
Safe to say I was surprised, confused and flabbergasted.
What caused such a shift? What had transpired in those couple days to change the logo so much? Would this be for the better or for worse?
